ICH NIGHT MARKET 2023

The theme of this year’s ICH Mart was “Cultural Adventure Through Time.” The two-day “Mart” and “Night Market” aimed to bridge traditional craftsmanship and intangible cultural heritage with the new generation, providing opportunities to conserve and revitalize cultural heritage. A series of ICH-themed cultural experiences, game booths, workshops, performances, and merchant stalls were offered, creating a vibrant atmosphere at Tai Kwun and Central Market. Visitors could fully experience Hong Kong’s unique intangible cultural heritage from morning to night.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Night Market @ Central Market

As part of the “Night Vibes Hong Kong” initiative, the Hong Kong Culture Festival launched the first and only “Intangible Cultural Heritage Night Market” in collaboration with Central Market on November 4-5, from 2 pm to 10 pm.

Located on the 1st floor of Central Market, the Night Market was a one-stop shopping paradise featuring 19 ICH-themed merchant stalls, offering traditional delicacies, paper crafting, tea, accessories, perfume, light boxes, scented candles, and more.

A highlight of this year’s Night Market was the cultural experience booths, where artisans demonstrated traditional craftsmanship techniques such as rainbow calligraphy, handmade grasshoppers, kite making, embroidery, dough sculpture, fragrant sachets, Chinese knotting, and bead art. Visitors who registered on-site had the chance to create a one-of-a-kind traditional craft to take home for free.

The Night Market also featured a series of captivating performances, including fan and ribbon dances by kindergarten students, drum performances by primary school students, and an LED dragon dance and face-changing show.
