THE 7TH TAOIST CONCERT: THE GREAT WAY

Music has the profound ability to tug at our heartstrings and touch our souls. When we listen to music, we delight in immersing ourselves in its artistic conception, experiencing the emotions and vitality it conveys.

At this year’s Hong Kong Culture Festival, the piece “The Great Way” has been chosen to illustrate the philosophy of Chinese music culture. Additionally, “Crane’s Suite for Shakuhachi”—comprising five chapters that depict the crane’s flying, singing, lodging, eating, and an untitled state—is performed on the Japanese shakuhachi flute. These chapters reflect the common states of cranes, expressing the untitled artistic conception of oriental music through Zen.

In this concert, the optimism of Taoist music and the untitled, serene nature of oriental music complement each other. The first half and the second half of the concert explore different styles and moods of music, presenting a diverse array of musical expressions. This interplay of Taoist optimism and Zen serenity forms the central theme of the concert.
