WAY OF THE SWORD: WARRIOR TRADITIONS IN CHINA AND ITALY EXHIBITION

Exhibition: “Way of the Sword: Warrior Traditions in China and Italy”

Curated by Hing Chao and Roberto Gotti, the exhibition “Way of the Sword: Warrior Traditions in China and Italy” offers a multi-dimensional exploration of the warrior and sword traditions of China and Italy, spanning from the Classical era to the Early Modern age. This unique mixed-media exhibition includes over 50 historic swords and polearms, more than 20 sixteenth-century martial arts manuscripts and books, and a variety of historical artifacts related to the martial cultures of both countries.

Drawing on the expertise of City University of Hong Kong professor and new media curator Jeffrey Shaw, “Way of the Sword” provides a range of immersive and interactive experiences. These experiences guide viewers through a historical journey of the sword, ultimately reaching the 21st century, where the martial arts traditions of Italy and China converge in a shared path of rediscovery and cultural exchange.

The exhibition also features photography by Almond Chu, Chinese ink paintings by Lin Haizhong, Zheng Li, and Lee Chi Ching, as well as a selection of animations and documentary films commissioned specifically for this event.
